Meet the Team Jake Salvatore, Chief of Staff

This series features all of the awesome people who make ZEA Biosciences run. Today, we sat down with Jake Salvatore, our hardworking Chief of Staff to discuss everything that he does in and out of the office.

Tell us a little about yourself, Jake

I was born and raised in Westwood, MA and I’ve been living in the greater Boston area my whole life. Before joining ZEA, I worked for the USGA doing sales and client services. I also worked for Loomis Sayles on their Bank Loans Settlements team.

How did you first hear about ZEA?

I first heard about the company from our CEO Jim while we were both at the gym. We had never met before and just happened to strike up a conversation in the weightroom. Somewhere in the course of our discussion he convinced me to join his new biotech company as a member of the finance team. That was almost two years ago.

What would you consider a highlight of your time with the company so far?

It’s been really interesting getting to know this new industry. I’ve worked in finance before, but this field is so new that the playbook is still being written. The market for plant biologics is mostly uncharted territory, so every day is a learning opportunity.

What’s something cool you’re working on now?

Right now, most of my energy is focused on our series A fundraising round. I act as a liaison to our investors and shareholders. I’m also heavily involved in designing ZEA’s new facility, which is an exciting project.

If you could plan an ideal team lunch, what would it be?

If I were in charge of the menu for a ZEA team lunch I would serve steak tips with a side of steak tips.

Where did you go to school and what did you study?

I went to Merrimack College in North Andover, MA and graduated with a degree in finance and psychology.

If someone passes you the aux cord, what song are you playing?

I would play One by U2.

What’s your favorite sports team?

The New England Patriots. Next question.

What’s something that most people don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know that I play the piano.

What’s the best way for people to follow you and see more of your work?

Break out your checkbook and become a ZEA investor.
