Jim has over 20 years of experience with entrepreneurial and start-up ventures focusing on technology, real estate and industrial operations. He has built his reputation by scaling technology processes and driving down costs. Prior to founding ZEA, Jim founded AquaHarvest Technologies (now Fresh Box Farms/Crop One Holdings) and led the company through the commercialization phase. From 2003-2010, Jim was the founder and Managing Partner of Pine Street Investment Company, a real estate investment company. Jim received a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Industrial management from Carnegie Mellon University. He also served as a US Naval pilot for four years. Jim authored 11 pending patents related to varying plant, system and process areas, along with three different national grants for USDA, DOE and National Science Foundation. His volunteer work includes mentoring at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and various charitable organizations in the Boston area.
Mike has over 25 years of financial and operational experience in a wide range of industries, including biotechnology, life sciences, medical device, high tech, software, consulting, consumer products, financial services, and non-profit. He has worked start-ups, small, mid-size, and large multi-national corporations. Mike has served as the CFO/Head of Finance at several companies including Alzheon, Beacon Endoscopic, Blend Therapeutics, The Boston Society, Fog Pharmaceuticals, GreenLight Biosciences, Helio Vision, Innosight, LifeMine, and Lumicell. He also worked in financial and commercial roles at GenRad, Genzyme, and Procter & Gamble. Mike received a BA in Economics at Saint Lawrence University and an MBA in finance and strategy at The University of Chicago.
Arlene has worked for over 25 years as an IP attorney, with much of her time spent in a Boston law firm. Arlene also worked as a sole practitioner for several years. She has experience in a wide range of intellectual property matters, including prosecution of foreign and domestic patents, trademarks and copyrights. Her practice concentrated in the areas of chemical, biological, mechanical and design patent matters. Arlene received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Tufts University and attended Suffolk University Law School, where she received her law degree. Arlene is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Karen has over 15 years of operations, project management, and leadership experience at well-respected Boston financial institutions. Her management roles at State Street, Wellington Management, & Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. consisted of automating, streamlining, and reporting of high-risk operational areas. She has managed large cross-functional divisions and has an exemplary success record for creating superior operational teams and efficiencies. She received her bachelor’s degree in Finance from Bentley University. Prior to joining ZEA, Karen obtained her master’s degree in Nutrition from Lesley University and started her own business. Karen joined the ZEA team as Vice President of Operations to coordinate and implement ZEA’s strategic business initiatives.
Jake is a Merrimack College graduate with a degree in Finance and Psychology. As Process Manager, he optimizes the daily efficiency of the financial and operations management for ZEA, and is currently working on securing Series A financial funding. Prior to joining ZEA, Jake worked at Loomis Sayles in their fixed income operations team, and for the USGA on the sales and client services team.
Noah is a second-year student at Boston University where he studies biochemistry and molecular biology. At ZEA, Noah assists our Principal Scientist, Dr. Diogo Miron, with his experiments and research.
Rob Adams is a nationally recognized expert in innovative cold storage construction and is a co-author of some of ZEA's pending patents. Rob received a BS in Chemistry from University of Houston, and for fifteen years has served on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the University’s startup companies.
Mike started his career with two startup businesses before entering his family’s construction business. He has been a Massachusetts contractor for the last 34 years and has managed large-scale residential and commercial projects. His focus is to supervise and direct construction projects from conception to completion, be responsible for all on-site and off-site construction to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations, and analyze, manage and mitigate risks. His construction and project management clients have included universities, churches and other large commercial real estate firms. More recently, he has managed the construction of clean room facilities and their corresponding HVAC engineering requirements.
Caleb is a 2019 graduate of Gettysburg College where he earned a BA in English literature. Caleb has over three years of paid writing experience and is certified in both SEO and social media marketing. As a part of our Public Relations team, Caleb writes press releases, editorial content, video scripts, ad copy, and white papers related to plant-based medicine and its exciting possibilities.
Adam studies finance at Boston University's Questrom School of Business. He began his undergraduate studies in 2018 and hopes to earn his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2021, a year earlier than expected.
Jack Wagenseller is studying Supply Chain Management and Sustainable Business Practices at Northeastern University and is expected to graduate in 2022. He has worked as an intern with ZEA since 2016, where he has spearheaded the second-floor expansion project rack layout and set up the grow room for maximum efficiency. He also works on facility production and operations with the ZEA team.
